About

I am a Combat Wounded Retired Disabled Veteran and here’s a bit about me;  I was classically trained as a painter in the Netherlands and earned a degree in art from the University of  Alaska Southeast.  I have a Masters in Education from the University of Oregon and a Masters in Recreation from George Williams College.  International accomplishments include an exhibition on the landscapes of Afghanistan following my deployment in 2006 in Hanau Germany.  A great deal of my current work is a result of recovering from the emotional scars of war.  I have a renewed zest for life with love as a guide to finding joy again.  I am excited to share with you my journey through imagery and inspiration.

  1. My husband was an art teacher before he joined the ARMY We are both from WI. He from Beloit and me from Milwaukee. He too relied on art to help come with his PTSD. Your style reminds me very much of his. He also sketched with Sharpies. A lot of his art was the old Lakefront in MIlwaukee. I lost him to Pancreatic Cancer. I wish I could share your work with him. Thank you for your service and your amazing art!

    • Thank you for your heart felt message. I hope by sharing my work I can connect with viewers on a personnel level. You are the first to comment and I am touched by your words. I am sorry for your loss.

  2. I just wanted to thank you for teaching me so much about art and to take it more seriously. The most important thing you’ve taught me was that their is more to art than just a canvas a paintbrush and an empty mind. I know you’ve never really taught me anything but I can just see it your paintings and in you. So thank you.

  3. Mark – so cool meeting you today at the coffee shop. In browsing your art, both me and my wife are speechless and in awe. It’s beautiful and intense. It also feels vulnerable. I would not call myself an art afficianado, but I’m moved by yours.
